The Music of Siddhartha
A theatrical production staged by World-in-Theatre at The Arts House from 28 November to 1 December 2024
The music for Siddhartha is as integral to the storytelling as the dialogues and the dramatic performances.
Composed, performed, and recorded collaboratively by Angeline Kim-Kyna Tan and Danny van Noort - the duo also known as AnD - the music embodies the spiritual and emotional journey of the play, elevating the audience’s experience with each note.
Both Danny and Angeline are experienced musicians with experience in soundscaping and composing music for theatre productions, music concerts, musicals and films. Their complementary styles — Angeline’s classical music training and Danny’s multi-instrumental versatility — aim to form a cohesive and transcendent soundscape for Siddhartha.
The compositions blend modern and traditional musical influences, drawing from ethnic and Indian musical scales to encapsulate the emotions and ethos of the scenes. The use of music in the production reinforces the themes and provides a sonic representation of Siddhartha’s evolving inner world and spiritual journey.
The music that the two composers have crafted offers not only a visceral listening experience but also a contribution to the timeless story of self-discovery.
